New York Central Mohawk
The ultimate Mohawk was a 72-inch drivered L4a/L4b of Lima extraction. Locos 3100-3149 posted a phenominal wartime mileage record: 4.8 million passenger miles and 1 million freight miles in 1944 with monthly highs reaching 24,000 miles per engine. The 3142 is seen here at Weehawken, NJ in 1949, running in West Shore freight service. Photo No. 56
